Meaning: Chalk landing

Origin: English

Alternate spellings: Chelsia

Although Chelsea technically means “chalk landing,” it probably originates from the Chelsea district of London. Associate it with the Chelsea neighborhood in New York City if you don’t know London. And if you don’t know either, well, “chalk landing” is as good a definition as any.

Chelsea entered the top 1,000 in 1969, quickly became a top 50 name, and stayed there from 1985 to 1995.
