Meaning: Constant ruler
Alternate spellings: Erik, Eryk, Erick
Eric is a variation of the traditional Norse name Eirik, which means “constant ruler.” (Or for your son, Ruler of the Highchair!) Even today when many people hear the name, they think of first-century Viking explorer and all-around badass Erik the Red. Eric has been on the U.S. charts since 1880. It fluctuated in popularity over the years, but eventually reached its peak in the top 20 in the 1970s, and has been losing ground since.
