Baby Names: Hannah – Babble

Hannah

By Babble |

Baby Names:

Hannah

Meaning: God has favored me

Origin: Hebrew

Alternate spellings: Hana, Hanna

When Hannah Montana aired, Hannah was on every little girl’s tongue…but the name actually dropped somewhat during the show’s run. (We bet parents just got tired of Miley.) Hannah, a Hebrew name that means “God has favored me” given to a woman who appears in the Bible, was popular around the turn of the 1900s, then declined in use through the sixties. It had a big surge in popularity in the late 1980s and a top 10 run between 1995 and 2007, but a year after Hannah Montana aired in 2006, the name started to fall, although not very far. And now that this show’s headed off air, we can’t help but wonder what’s in store for this name’s future. Try shortened Hana for a spelling alternative.
