Meaning: Who is like God?
Alternate spellings: Makaila, Mckayla, Micaela, Mikaela, Mikayla, Michaela, Micaela
“Who is like God?” No, don’t answer, it’s kind of a rhetorical question. It’s also the meaning (yes, the meaning itself is a question) of the name Makayla, a variation of older Michaela, the female version of Michael. Michaela has been on the U.S. charts since the 1960s, but made a big leap when Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman debuted in the early nineties. The show’s main character was Dr. Michaela Quinn, but people called her Mike…a nickname we don’t recommend for baby Michaela. Makayla, similar to ultra-popular Kayla, is a better-liked spelling than the original today, but Michaela’s hanging in there, too. Variations popular today are Mikayla, Michaela, Mikaela, and Mckayla.
