Meaning: Page, servant
Alternate spellings: Page, Payge
You don’t see many occupational girl’s names these days. No Butlers, Lawyers, Baristas, or Clerks…even Chandler, an old word for a candle maker, didn’t really come into vogue, even after Friends introduced Chandler Bing. But Paige is the exception – it’s an old English name that used to refer to a page or servant. And for the last part of the twentieth century, parents loved calling their kids servants. After making the charts in 1952, the name shot up in popularity and has been in the top 100 for nearly twenty years. Although Paige Davis of Trading Spaces gave the name a bit of a boost, Paige is heading back down the list. Paige is short, cute, and a little boyish, so it should appeal to you if you aren’t looking for a unisex name, but you don’t want a Daisy, either.
