Parker

Baby Names:

Parker

Meaning: keeper of the park

Origin: England

Alternate spellings: none

While there are many occupation-names out there (see Mason and Hunter) Parker does not mean someone who used to park the car. It was originally used as a surname for the “keeper of the park,” referring to a Medieval English game park. (Perhaps something like an ancient Six Flags?)

Anyway – Parker didn’t start being used as a name in the U.S. until the 1990′s. (It was in the 700′s and 800′s or nonexistent before then.) Parker as a boy is far more popular than Parker as a girl which logged in at #505.
