Meaning: Impulsive; angry; queen
Alternate spellings: Raegan, Regan
No, parents, this name does not mean “president.” In fact, it didn’t become a popular girl’s name until the 1990s, years after the Ronald’s presidency ended. Before that, though, Linda Blair’s creepy character (actually the related name Regan) in the 1973 horror flick The Exorcist is probably what gave the name the boost it needed to enter the charts for the first time the year after the movie’s debut…and the character fits the name’s description to a tee. Reagan has Irish roots and may mean “impulsive, angry,” and “queen.” After The Exorcist, we can add “creepy” to that list. The name’s received a bit of attention for the boys, too – while Reagan the girl remains popular among parents, which is usually enough to kill most unisex names for boys, Reagan the boy is still hanging in there, although it’s much less popular than its female counterpart.
