The Babble List: The Best Candy Ever
We rank the 25 all-time greatest Halloween treats.

I haven't worn a Halloween costume since college, and that was under protest. But you're never too old to enjoy a little Halloween candy. Okay, a lot of Halloween candy. Here are some my personal faves. Note that these aren't necessarily my favorite candies of all time — for example, I'm a big fan of Haribo Fruit Salad (mmm... fruit-shaped candy covered in an extra layer of sugar...) but in my experience, they don't scale well to a trick-or-treat bag. And certain candy varieties are only sold in the fall. So make an extra dentist appointment and let's get started. — Brett Singer

25. Chuckles
These are on my top 10 candy list year-round. I freely admit that part of the fun of eating them is saying, "Hey, what's up chuckles?" using a bad Jimmy Cagney voice. Luckily for my children, they are very good at ignoring me.

24. SweeTarts
Are they sweet? Are they tart? No, they're SweeTarts! Actually, it's SweeTARTS, according to this site, which was created by someone who admits that they are "obsessed" with this particular confection. "The 'Swee' is rendered in bright blue, the 'ARTS' in magenta; the 'T' in the middle is divided between the two colors." There was a lawsuit with Ocean Spray, who sometimes called their sweetened cranberry drinks "sweet-tart." Something to do with the Lanham Act. See? Bet you didn't know this would be educational. This will not be on the test, unless you happen to be taking the Bar Exam, in which case you can thank me later. Perhaps by sending candy.

23. Starburst
Starburst are good anytime. Already individually wrapped, they make a good throw-in item after the main event has been tossed into the trick-or-treat bag.

22. Dots
Not recommended for anyone with braces, Dots are kind of like gum drops without the sugar coating. And with all of the sugar you'll be consuming on October 31st, a little less probably isn't a bad thing.

21. Tootsie Pops
These are also good eatin' all year long, even if nobody actually cares how many licks it takes to get to the center.
20. Pumpkin Peeps
Enormous. Orange. Peeps. What could be bad? Eating the entire package would be very bad, since you will feel ill. Trust me. I know things.
