I love how fasinated kids are with cameras. I have seen a few toy digital cameras around - the kind where you click the button and the "photo" on the "viewscreen" clicks around to a cute cartoon picture. I found children were most amused when they took a photo of me and the picture on the back was a dog. Lots of laughter. And pointing fingers. Good times!

Alternatively you could buy a cheap plastic camera or toy camera and stick a photo on the back? It would probably get picked off fast, but you could just keep replacing the photo with a new one? Of course, that does require Clio and Elsa to get into the whole roleplay aspect of it!

The real kids digital cameras look very nifty! It would be fasinating to see what they took pictures of. :)

(PS. I have been reading your blog for a while, but I don't think I've commented before. I'm not a parent but I'm a nursery nurse, working with 18m-4yos. I really enjoy reading about your experiences with twins!)

I photograph kids quite often, and I've switched to digital in the last couple years, so I know about this problem!

My solution: turn off the picture review display. This will be somewhere in the options menu. That way the photo won't come up on the back of the screen. You might want to tell the girls that it's "broken" (what is parenting without white lies? ;) )And they'll give up looking at the photos before too long.

The reason this bothered me is I'd have the kids wanting to be on the wrong side of the camera! Definitely no good for photos. Maybe let them come see the photos once you get them onto the computer?

hey we have those chairs! Same color too.

For several weeks we only had one, because we had a gift certificate to Pottery Bitch and didn't know what else to do with it. That's when the biting started in earnest, over the one chair... so we shelled it out for a 2nd chair.

Clio's sportin' some downright girly hair! So cute - I can't wait to see them again.

Thank you for reporting on the Ceramic Shack chairs, I was going to ask. I've already decided that Little Man is getting his own lounger for Christmas (I know, I plan early) and I was considering Ceramic Shack. Will have to consult Ebay.

oooh! I did the same thing and now I have very similar shots of Burke :) He *loves* seeing himself (and anyone else for that matter) in the camera.

Michael has a similar chair from Target, and he also loves it! He also has the same cell phone/camera habits. Now that you mention it, I should go get him a fake cell phone, though I doubt it will be as fun as the real one.

First of all, your girls are so cute it's ridiculous. Nearly all photos of my two year old are also of her charging at the camera..."I see it"...and as for the phone fascination, try getting a callback from 911 after your daughter makes an abandoned call. cops are on the way to your house to make sure all's well. YIKES.

Our son turned 2 on June 29, so I remember not so long ago (and still, to an extent)the fascination with gadgets. He once called the Pelican Club in New Orleans when I foolishly passed the cell phone to him while I was driving. We don't live in New Orleans, the place was recommended (pre-Katrina) by a friend since I was speaking at a conference there. So the call wasn't the cheapest. I could hear a delighted hostess shouting, "Hello?....Hello?....Hello, there sweet baby! How are you?", as my son cooed and gurgled and said something like "Hey.."

the old camera suggestion is a good one but could still be pricey and i don't know if mine would be fooled. it's still not my camera. the trick is to find a camera that looks like yours. mine are not suckers for the bright yellow giant plastic camera as a decoy for my sleek small metallic one that has, oh yeah, pictures of them inside. we had the cell phone fascination too so i also got them the toy cell phones. when i got a new phone (silver to black) i had to get them new black toy cell phones too. copy cats.

I remember reading an interesting suggestion regarding kids fascinated with digital cameras: put a want ad on Craigslist asking for a really old or broken-but-semi-functional camera. Especially if you offer to pick it up, I'm sure you'll be able to get one for cheap / free.

Love and am jealous of the new chairs. We have similar issues with the camera. Also, my computer, because sometimes I let them watch little videos of themselves, so now I can't turn on my computer without cries of "more bideo, more bideo."
