A nifty and different birthday "cake" idea: spell out a "Happy Birthday" wish with letter Jello molds (£7.99 for a set of 13 letters) by Urchin. I'm thinking these would be great for preschool and daycare birthday parties. No fuss, no frosting, no mess. Me likey.
