Rock the Retro: Vintage Inspired Fisher Price Teaching Clock

Posted by chrisjordan

I know I am dating myself here when I say, "I HAD THIS TOY!"  And if you were a child of the seventies, or sixties, you probably did too. And you probably also feel old that it is considered vintage.  They had better not start calling toys from my childhood antiques is all I'm sayin'.

The revolving clock face and rotating hands reveal pictures of preschool activities hour by hour.  Wind it up and it plays "Grandfather's Clock"  (I thought I remembered my original one playing Hickory, Dickory, Dock, anyone else?)  And since in is from the era before the toy manufacturers and battery manufacturers formed a super secret alliance against us parents, it requires NO BATTERIES.

Available at Back to Basic Toys for $24.99

I had this, too! and you're right, mine absolutely played "Hickory, Dickory, Dock",  it's how I know the tune to the song.

Mine definitely played "My Grandfather's Clock" but I'm not sure how old it was; it was a hand-me-down in the 80s.

Add me to the list of former owners! Mine, too, played "Hickory, Dickory, Dock." Maybe it just depended on what year it was made?

Yah, I had one of these, too, but it was an '80s hand-me-down, and played "Grandfather's Clock." I remember the song clearly, because I was convinced that a Grandfather clock was just any clock owned by a grandfather that was suitably "fancy." So my grandpa's wind-up, old-skool mantle clock was a "Grandfather Clock," I was sure. I think I still have trouble with the concept today. It did play great chimes, though. *grin*

This was one of my favorite toys. Maybe I can pretend I'm buying one for my nephew....
