The Babble Review: Popadum Baby Clothes Inspired By India

Posted by Gwynne Watkins

Finding interesting fashion for boys can be a challenge -- which is why the mom who founded Popadum became enamored with obsessed with traditional Indian fabrics and patterns on a trip to Rajasthan. The results are stunning pieces that can be worn by both boths and girls. Babble editor Ada took one shirt on a road test; here's what she had to say:

These Indian-style shirts ($20-$30) initially struck me as far too pretty for toddlers. I took one look at the stack of white-with-gold-brocade tunics and imagined them smeared with goldfish-cracker drool. So I opted for the light, soft tie-dyed one in gray and blue. My one-year-old son seemed to love it and wore it happily on several occasions. As pretty as it was, the shirt survived multiple Drefting without incident. The only problem: some fellow parent on the playground made a crack about it making the kid look like a '60s folk singer. "Nuh-uh," I said. "Folk singers have hair."

I love Indian clothing! It’s always soft and comfortable and it really breathes allowing for maximum comfort. This is the first time though I’ve seen anyone talking about or selling baby clothes designed with Indian fashion in mind. My baby daughter is really picky and gets hot easily. I’d love to put her in some of these so that she could stay nice and cool or warn depending on the time of year. I might pick a few of these things up and give them as baby gifts to some of my friends who have babies.
