Calling All Aspiring Baby Food Chefs

Posted by Lisa Mulcahy

There’s a new French import in town and it just might change your mind about preparing baby food at home. Again, I’m going to file this under, “Why does all the really cool stuff launch in Europe?”

Now at Williams-Sonoma, you can get the Beaba Babycook, $139.95. Not just another kitchen gadget, this one has the goods to deliver. It multitasks as a steamer, blender, warmer and defroster. First it steam cooks vegetables, fruits, meat and fish in less than 15 minutes, then purees or blends them to the desired consistency. You can also use it to quickly reheat or defrost precooked foods. Sign me up for Baby Food Making 101, this seems easy.

OR, you can just use the pots & pans you already own, and the blender you already own, and the microwave you already own!

Super-cute, I agree, but not $140 cute or useful.

Is it made of plastic? And if so, is there any BPA in there? I wouldn't buy anything that heats or warms food -- especially for my baby -- in plastic.

Thank you for the clarification.  I'm really disappointed with Williams Sonoma.  I had asked twice if it contained BPA and all they would say is "it does not contain PVC and therefore does not leach BPA".  After contacting Mothercare, they were very clear in stating "please be advised, it does contain BPA"  It just goes to show how Williams Sonoma can be very misleading in their words.  I will not be purchasing the Babycook, and I am glad that Z recommends has given me what I needed to know.
