7 Days of Must-Haves: The Snack Trap

Posted by Chris Ford

When I asked my wife what I should write about for "7 Days of Must-Haves," she immediately said "the Snack Trap." And I have to admit, she was absolutely right. If you've got a toddler who likes to take a snack with them (which pretty much limits it to every toddler in the world), then a Snack Trap is something that you really need to have.

Often the most simple things are the most ingenious, and the Snack Trap is no exception. It's a cup for small bite-sized snacks (like Goldfish crackers, Cheerios, grapes or whatever) with a rubber lid. The genius thing about the lid is, it lets small hands get to the food, but keeps the food inside for the inevitable moment when your toddler tips it over. The picture shows the lid, so you can get an idea of how it works.

They're found in lots of baby supply stores, or you can buy them in a three-pack for $13.95 from Amazon.com. In my opinion, you can never have too many.

As a parent, I thought this was definately a "must have." After about ten minutes, my thirteen month old figured out how to hold down a flap and tip over the cup.  Worthless for us...

My #1 favorite toddler item, ever.  Yes, it took about 10 minutes for one of my girls to figure out how to spill things from it, but it only took another 10 for her to figure out that if she spilled it all, then she had nothing left to eat!  We take them EVERYWHERE - they're lifesavers in the car!

LOVE these, especially for in the car.  Also, I don't recommend the Gerber Graduates knockoff of these.  They have flap things in a raised lid that allow food to spill out (unintentionally) way too easy.  Definitely poor design, especially compared to the original.

you can order directly from the company too,at snacktrap.com,  and it's mom-owned unlike corporate Amazon.... The cups are 4.99 each, but if you order 3 the shipping is only $1, so I bet the price diff is a wash.

Also, you can order lids for a few bucks from the company that fit over the plastic flap lid so you can toss it in your purse and not worry about your keys ending up embedded in cut up apple....

We LOOOOVE the snack trap.

We love these too. Does anyone know what kind of plastic they are made out of? I can't find a number on the bottom, and I would just like to know how safe they are.

Manjari - I actually emailed the Snack Trap people a few months ago asking them about the type of plastic, but I never received a response. If you find out let me know.

And thanks for the tips on the alternate places to buy them everyone!
