Fairybread: To Eat and Wear

Posted by Erin Behan

They say that necessity is the mother of invention. I say that motherhood necessitates invention. The sheer number of women who enter motherhood and start a business is inspiring. One such mom (and her mom) have entered the sweater business with their company Fairybread and are producing some smashing handmade sweater-jackets. The simple but colorful sweaters ($125) come in three colors green/orange, brown/pink and red/yellow, and are sized 2, 4 and 6. And as to the name, it references an Australian kids treat of bread, butter and candy sprinkles.

OMGoodness.  125 for that?!  Recession?  What recession?

I’m not a great knitter, but I’m sure I could do that.  I wouldn’t, but I don't hate little girls. Garter stitch is the ugliest of all stitches.

Here’s a tip to all you fashionista mamas who like this sweater. Church bazzar season is coming up.  At every bazzar I attend there is a table with baby and child knits.  Usually handmade and donated by church members to raise money. They always sell for next to nothing. These women don't value their skills.

Who makes garter stitch sweaters for anyone over the age of 1? And for 125 dollars?  Please!  Not droolworthy.  Get thee to a church Christmas bazzar!

Or you could buy a set of knitting needles and learn the garter stitch. Seriously - very easy.

Agreed..not cute for $1, let alone $125. You can get much, much cuter things on etsy at a much more reasonable price.
