Swedish designer Anki Spets makes beautiful home textiles from natural fibers that have simple pattterns and details, yet aren't too matchy-matchy. They're stylish and modern, but they're not trying too hard. (And luckily for me, her NYC-based company, Area, happens to have excellent sample sales.) My favorite blanket of hers is the super-soft, ultra-warm Alma -- a cozy confection of pure cotton. Now Alma comes in a baby-size ( 30"x40") and 8 lovely colors, from pale pink sorbet to a rich chocolate brown. My kids wrap themselves in their blankets and curl up in front of the TV -- to watch educational programs, of course. At $55, it makes an incredible baby gift that keeps on giving. Also, watch for Area's new organic collection, coming soon....
