This little doorknob pillow ($12 at Sassy Baby Stuff) gets an A for effort: Its intended use -- to hang on the front door to let folks know not to ring the doorbell if baby is sleeping -- is a great idea, and just giving this to a new-mom-to-be is an excellent way to both encourage her to sleep when the baby sleeps and let her know that it's okay to not be open for visitors all day long.
On the other hand, as any sufferer of New Mommy Brain can attest, the reality is that she'll hang it as "Baby Sleeping" and then totally forget about it, leaving it that way all day and then tearfully wondering later on why no one stopped by to visit. Oh well.
