• Recall: Eddie Bauer Soothe & Sway Play Yard

  I will always give props to the play yard that kept my daughter busy when I needed to do the dishes or shower. However, the ever popular Eddie Bauer Play Yard has been recalled.  The Soothe and Sway model that was sold prior to December 1, 2008 is the model in question.  The problem seems to be the bassinet attached to the top of the play yard.  Apparently, the bassinet portion has been tipping excessively which then causes the infant to roll on his or her side and cause a possible choking hazard. • Joovy Portable Play Yard

  I recently discovered the Joovy portable play yard, which I found thrilling, because it sort of resembles the old school playyards that my mother used to place me in as a child.  I mean, I love the safety features and sleek designs of all the new age playyards. • Amazon Deal Alert: Graco Pack 'N Plays $50 Off

  As a new or impending parent, a "pack 'n play" (or some sort of similar portable bed) is something you absolutely think you'll need, but in my experience it's something that you'll only use a few times. • Put Baby in a Grandma's Babies Infant Play Yard

  This grandmother-designed contraption is s step up from other baby gym mat type toys in that baby is actually contained by the 10" soft walls. It's not as restrictive as a playpen, but a bit more limited than a traditional mat. The dangling toys and musical animal buttons within should keep baby entertained for a while, and I daresay this may keep a toddler sibling from stepping on the baby, too. I'm not the only one who's intrigued; this infant play yard was given the Creative Child Magazine 2007 Seal of Excellence. The basic play yard (pictured above) is available from Grandma's Babies for $99.50; a deluxe version with a tent-top and two toddler-friendly flashlights is available for $50 more.
