• Calico Critters Go Gold in Canada

  Calico Critters, those teeny-tiny families of bunnies, bears, and other fuzzy creatures whose worlds are rich with super-detailed accessories parents love to spend hours cleaning up, have snagged a Gold Star Award from the Neighbourhood Toy Stores of Canada. For those of us who omit the "u" from the former word, that means the toys were singled out for their quality and play value (and, ostensibly, lead-free Chinese paint, as the Critters' parent company, International Playthings, has not yet been part of a lead recall). In anticipation of the holidays, the company recently rolled out five new items: Sweetbriar Pony And Stable and Willow At The Horse Show playsets, a limited-edition trio of baby penguins, and Happy Halloween (pictured) and Deluxe Christmas sets. • Fairy Life Is the Good Life

  On weekends, cute little fairies from Dara Dunn ($16) chill with frosty drinks on their very own outdoor patio. Their hand-sewn wings relax, and their poseable bodies show us what summer living is all about. When it the sun goes down, they can retire to their Orange Blossom Hut ($110) for the night. No doubt, fairies have it good. Maybe that's why cuteable tells us they get snapped up as fast as Dara can make them.
