• Sakura Aiming for Revolution Girl-Robot-Style Now

  As the only toy robot aimed at girls, Sakura ($69.99) has her niche cornered; but the significantly lower age range to which she's being marketed -- 3 and up -- means Sakura's bells and whistles don't extend to complex movement and remote-control functions. She dances and figure skates atop a rolling platform, but that's about it. Still, with a memory chip that lets her tell jokes, offer fashion tips, give compliments ("That outfit rocks!") and tell fortunes, and a clever function that allows her to record your secrets for posterity (you release them only with the included key), Sakura is a far more pleasant companion than Roboraptor. • Calico Critters Go Gold in Canada

  Calico Critters, those teeny-tiny families of bunnies, bears, and other fuzzy creatures whose worlds are rich with super-detailed accessories parents love to spend hours cleaning up, have snagged a Gold Star Award from the Neighbourhood Toy Stores of Canada. For those of us who omit the "u" from the former word, that means the toys were singled out for their quality and play value (and, ostensibly, lead-free Chinese paint, as the Critters' parent company, International Playthings, has not yet been part of a lead recall). In anticipation of the holidays, the company recently rolled out five new items: Sweetbriar Pony And Stable and Willow At The Horse Show playsets, a limited-edition trio of baby penguins, and Happy Halloween (pictured) and Deluxe Christmas sets. • Rock the Retro: Evel Knievel the Original X-Gamer

  Another toy that I had as a child.  I loved my Evel Knievel action figure and his motorcycle.  I would wind it up and send him doing wheelies down a long hallway in my house.  This set includes the dragster with working parachute, car with a hinged body, and a chrome plated stunt motorcycle.  And of course, a 7" Evel Knievel.   I feel a little cheated that I only had the motorcycle. • Hand Made: Rock a Bye Dolly

  Fond memories cropped up when I spotted this darling dolly cradle.  Covering dolly with her pink blanket, singing to her, and watching in shock as my little brother snatched her and ripped her head off.  To this day, the little bugger doesn't know where I buried his marble collection.
