I’m not talking about her adorable attempts at trying to draw Santa (which honestly looks more like a beached whale), or her indulgence in binging on the gingerbread house’s decorations. No, I can’t wait until she can join me in making Ice Cream Treewitches, Mrs. Clause’s Peppermint Wonders and Sweet and Crunchy Garland or some of the other delicious and delightful recipes and projects included in the book Kids in the Holiday Kitchen – Making, Baking, Giving.

It looks like next year will be the year for our family cooking and crafting, but if your kids are old enough, pick up this book for some festive holiday cheer.
Sure, having up to 2,500 beloved family recipes stored digitally could present even more of a hazard than filing them on cards if the kids start messing around with this digital recipe reader, but if you're looking to cut kitchen clutter (and don't mind dropping $300 to save some paper), go ahead and splurge. Besides the file, the reader also has three separate timers, along with conversion and substitition tools -- and considering it lets you upload and synchronize recipes online, you'll probably never lose Grandma's fudge recipe, anyway, even if your littlest mistakes the gadget for a video game.

This is a shower gift, plain and simple. While I did dig
into this recipe box filled with advice on healthy eating from pregnancy until
the baby’s first birthday, recipes included, no mom is going to have time to
sit down with this during the first year of madness with the loudest and messiest
roommate you’ve ever had. However, if you did get this from your Aunt Martha
who is a sucker for a picture of a baby in a chef’s hat, here’s the skinny.

Likes:

Fishy Fish - a very detailed (and recently updated) look
into the one food group that is either so good for you that your brain will
explode with genius, or will kill you and your child. I’m always confused, and
the people behind the box took the time to lay it all on the line. The
information I got from my midwife wasn’t this extensive.

Choking Checks – a list of foods you might think you can
feed your baby when they start solids, but are actually accidents waiting to
happen.

Opt for Organic - advice on when to splurge on organic and
when to protect your wallet.

Dislikes:

Monster Meats – deli meats, hot dogs, bacon, sausage and
cured meats are all on the ‘no’ list until your babe is two-years-old. Mostly
don’t like this because it makes me go, “Oops.”

Never Nuts – I know this is a serious issue, but my
one-year-old loved her some peanut butter upon first lick. Depriving her of the
luscious protein-packed delicacy for a whole other year while her mother was
eating it in front of her by the spoonful would have been cruel.

Get your own box here.
