Kate Hudson's Kid Has Better Hair Than I Do

Posted by HerBadMother

I like to think that I'm a pretty hip parent. My kid has legwarmers with little skulls on them, and we rock out to the Johnny Cash Family Album and eat hummus and shit like that. But still - I see a toddler with long shiny hair and I immediately assume, girl. Maybe it's because I have issues about my own daughter's inability to grow hair; maybe it's because I have a subconscious need to act out in reponse to every granny who has ever asked me how old my skirt-clad boy is. Whatever it is, I just kinda don't get why a mother would want her toddler boy to have prettier hair than she has.

I mean, Kate Hudson's kid is totally adorable and all that, but he looks like a totally adorable girl. Does she put it in pigtails when it gets messy? Does he like having it brushed? Does he ever wear barrettes to keep it out of his eyes? WHADDUP?

I know, I know - down with gender stereotypes and all that, but really? Is this about subverting gender stereotypes or about wanting one's kid to be the hippest little rocker on the block?

Does it matter? No. I'm just cranky. I'm having a bad hair day.

I think it is stupid.  So "oh-look-how-hip-mommy-is".  He will get teased and at his age that really hurts.  She is trying desperately to appear edgy.  Cut that girly mop!

Don't feel bad- last time I saw a picture of Celine Dion and her kid, I remarked on her daughter's beautiful hair... and then my husband reminded me that it was a BOY.

Oh, well. When my little guy was littler (like just-sitting-up little), a woman in the grocery store asked me how old my little girl was- my no-hair-having, blue-clad girl. Because he has long eyelashes.

A lot of celebrities have Rapunzel boys. It's crazy.

Gwen Stefani, Gavin Rossdale and son Kingston were seen out shopping in London . Everyone knows these three are the trifecta of cool. But what happened to Kingston's hair? I know there's an alarming trend to give your son a girl-do , but I figured

This has nothing to do with girlishness. In the Netherlands we have a longhaired boysclub (ages 6-12), and our members find themselves very boyish and tough. This has to do with being allowed to make your own choices, and the feeling of freedom. In case of the toddler boys it probably will be the choices of their parents, but that doesn't differ from those millions of parents who decide to give their boys a crewcut without asking their sons what they want. Our boy are proud of their hair. Some wear it somewehere around the shoulders, sone of them way down their backs. The 'champions': 80 cm, which is about 31 inches. And no, they don't get teased.
