Does Jim Carrey even know where Myanmar is? Sorry, but it's kinda hard to take Jim "Dumb and Dumber" Carrey seriously. And that picture looks like an outtake from some twisted Farrelly Bros. movie set in occupied Burma ("Me, Myself, and Than Shwe"?)
Anyway. It looks like his flirtation with fatherhood - step-fatherhood that is, to girlfriend Jenny McCarthy's young son - has given him a social conscience. Which is great and all, but still - it's a bit jarring to read his appeal to the military dictatorship to end its brutal suppression of pro-democracy protesters and its detention of opposition leader Aung Sung Suu Kyi and then read "Carrey is best known for his comic roles in movies like "Dumb and Dumber" and "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective." Who can forget, after all, that Jim has delivered his most memorable speeches while puppeting his butt cheeks? Kinda diminishes the gravitas of the situation here.
Who knows, though? Maybe military dictator Than Shwe saw "The Cable Guy." Then he'd know who he's messing with.
