Mekhi Phifer & Oni Souratha Welcome First Son Together

Posted by Sassy Smith

Mekhi Phifer from NBC's ER and his fiancée, Oni Souratha are proud to welcome their first child together, a son, Mekhi Thira Phifer, born in LA, Tuesday at 6:47am.

The little bundle of joy weighed in at 5lbs 4oz.  I have purses heavier than that and although I have some wicked cute handbags, I highly doubt they're cuter than this new baby.  Mekhi is hot so of course he produced a cute son.  I mean I watch ER for purely educational doctor purposes.  I'm studying to be an ER doctor and am taking a shortcut by watching the show.  Who needs university when you have a tv right in your own livingroom?

Mekhi Thira joins big brother, Omikaye, Mekhi's 8 year old son from a previous relationship.  The couple had a baby shower earlier this month for 200 of their friends (apparently MY invitation got lost in the mail) and they showed off their baby's new green nursery.

"This is just the start of the tribe," Phifer, 32, told PEOPLE at the shower. "I want to have four or five kids."  I guess they are well on their way.

Wow, all the black guys are married to asian women.  Dave Chapelle, David Grier and now Mekhi.  Are there no suitable black ladies for wives?

congrad to them  a baby is  always a blessing ... and to the poster above me ... i  definately  understand  how you you feel, but in his defense he was married to a balck woman. His mother of his first son is Melinda Williams who played  Bird(the youngest sister) on the TV verison of Soul Food (remember he  played Lem in the movie and in the movie he was married to Bird but in the movie Nia Long played that character)...

Anyway...it's nothing  new that black men go running to the  other  races, that's why i'm glad that  many of  us black women  don't  sit around anymore waiting  for a "good black man" to fall into our laps....a lot of   us are  waking up and finding  great partners outside of  our race. Unfortunately so many brothas(usually  frineds, family members, and  at times various ramdon guys) are seems offended when when we date a white man, hispanic man , asianman , or etc (trust me)... it's ok for them but not for us...

Hi Sassy,

Thanks for the notice on the new baby for Oni & Mekhi, but to say "Mekhi's 8 year old son from a previous relationship" sounds like he wasn't previously in a serious relationship, he was married to  Malinda. It wasn''t just a groupie encounter or fling.  And he wasn't that nice to her or their son together "Omikaye". But that is in the past now, and I hope he has grown up some since that marriage, and can be a good father to both son's and his future wife, Oni.

"from a previous relationship" is perfectly acceptable when speaking of a previous marriage, Sheila.

well i did state he was married to a black woman  and then  proceed to state who she was.... so what's the  problem???? did you bother to read what i said???... and i agree with shelia  previous relationship is  acceptable ... using  the word relationship implies a commitment not  just groupie love or a fling... but  i do agree .... i hope he's a good  father to both boys. That's the most important thing b/c we all know most of these  marries in hollywood don't last  anyway  but a children are forever

The story was focusing on Mekhi becoming a dad again, having his first child with his new fiancée and I obviously wanted to include his first born son in the story.  I wasn't implying anything by saying "previous relationship" concerning his first son.  I was merely pointing out that his new baby son has a big brother.

The writer of this article must be a non Black female dating or married to a black male or an incompetent reporter.  They so want to exclued the Black female, because they see some famous black males doing it and they follow his lead, not respecting the Black female or evern acknowledge her.  His ex-wife, Melinda Williams is beautiful and talent, and I am sure the oldest son has to be handsome with both of their dna in him.  By the way Melinda Williams did not have to  ride his coat tail to fame, when googling the baby's mamma, you don't get her, instead he comes up and this she is mentioned.  Not bad for a days work on a movie set, meet an actor, get knocked up and you are set for life.  I should have gone to Hollywood, oh I almost forgot they are not looking for Black wives.  In addition, I hope his oldest son does not fell left out.  Every article I have read say Mekhi Phifer and his baby's momma welcomes their first child.  I was hoping by now Mekhi would have made sure his other son was included in his happiness and not an after thought in the articles.

Deborah, I said, "..proud to welcome their first child TOGETHER.." and I said that the new baby JOINS big brother, Omikaye, so he wasn't an after thought.  This article was about Mekhi welcoming his newest son, not leaving out anyone else or dissing his ex.  And not that it's anyone's business, but my husband isn't black.  Neither is my boyfriend, well if you discount the fact that I have the hots for Shemar Moore.  Ha.  You sure make alot of assumptions.
