UPDATE: The twins are in stable condition, thank goodness.  Whit has the details here.

Dennis Quaid's 12 day old twins are in critical condition after recieving the wrong dose of Heparin, TMZ is reporting.  Babies Thomas Boone and Zoe Grace were given the anti-coagulant on Sunday, and sources say they received 10,000 units instead of the proper dose of 10 units.  The twins were born November 8th, via surrogate at Cedars.

Honestly that sounds like a huge error in reporting and I hope it is.  Either way, we at Famecrawler wish the entire family well. 

UPDATE FROM TMZ: "We're told as many as thirteen patients at Cedars were mistakenly given the overdose of Heparin, but the effects are more critical because of the age and weight of the twins."

Unfortunately heparin comes in two concentrations, one rather dilute for flushing IVS, and another which is concentrated for  dosing up people with blood clots.  If the vials were stocked in the wrong compartment on the electronic med cart and the nurse did not double check the med with someone else ... then there is probably not an error in reporting.

If it's happening all over the hospital then the med carts were probably stocked wrong, and the nurse are being dumb and not double checking a dose of a very dangerous med.
