By now, we've all heard the news - Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant and has shocked even her poptart of an older sister.
I'm still shaking my head, as I had high hopes that Jamie Lynn might learn a thing or two from her big sister-as in, not following in her trainwreck-y footsteps. However, there may be a glimmer of hope for the younger Spears - Jamie Lynn wants to raise her baby in her home state of Louisiana.
Of course it's always upsetting to hear of young teen baby mamas (I have to now explain this to my own 7 year old daughter, who loves "Zoey 101"/Jamie Lynn, who just one week ago said to me, "I hope Jamie Lynn doesn't turn out like Britney") but maybe Spears, even at the ripe old age of 16, realizes that in order for her child to have a chance at a 'normal' life, she has to get away from the glare of the paparazzi and those pesky flashing bulbs.
In her OK! magazine interview, the Zoey 101 star said that her pregnancy was a "shock for both of us (referring to her boyfriend Casey Aldridge), so unexpected. I was in complete and total shock and so was he." Ya, I bet that's an understatement.
Jamie Lynn didn't confide in her mother, Lynne right away. She took a couple of weeks to gather her thoughts and then broke the news to her parents shortly before the Thanksgiving holiday.
"I needed to work out what I would do for myself before I let anyone's opinion affect my decision. Then I told my parents and my friends. I was scared, but I had to do what was right for me."
Spears' mother Lynne, said to OK!, "I didn't believe it because Jamie Lynn's always been so conscientious. She's never late for her curfew. I was in shock. I mean, this is my 16-year-old baby." Jamie Lynn said that her mom was very upset at the news but "a week later, she had time to cope with it and became very supportive."
Mama Spears has reportedly put the release date of her "raising high profile children" book on hold. Gee, that's nice of her.
Although this news isn't what any parent wants to hear about their barely legal child, I have a feeling that Jamie Lynn will actually be a much better parent than her older sister, Brit. Hopefully she at least learned that much.
Good luck Jamie, good luck.
