Heath Ledger Found Dead

Posted by Karen

Heath Ledger was found dead this afternoon, in his New York city apartment.  The New York Times reports:

"At 3:31 p.m., a masseuse arrived at Apartment 5A in the building for an appointment with Mr. Ledger, the police said. The masseuse was let in to the home by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of Mr. Ledger’s bedroom. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Mr. Ledger unconscious. They shook him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the authorities. The police said they did not suspect foul play and said they found pills near body."

Heath Ledger leaves behind daughter Matilda Rose, who he fathered with Michelle Williams.  The two split sometime in Fall 2007 and Ledger was recently rumoured to have been dating Gemma Ward.

Details as we get them.  How very sad.

I feel bad for his sweet little girl.  And if he did indeed kill himself, he's selfish for doing that to her.

I don't know why this matters to me, but it does. He was a talented actor and I feel sorry for his daughter's loss and for the future contributions he could have made to movies.

You know what makes me most sad? The idea that his daughter was named Matilda, which may or may not have to do with "waltzing matilda" ... not the Tom Waits song, but the idea of a wanderer and his only companion (deemed "matilda" in the old aussie song) as he wanders through the bush all alone.

That made no sense, did it. This dude explains it better:

A "Matilda" is a knapsack, in Aussie slang, for reasons outlined in Wikipedia.  A little weird, but not completely out of the realm of possibility.

I was shocked and even cried when I heard this. I feel so sad for Matilda and for Michelle and the job she has ahead of her, raising a little girl alone with all this sadness and media chaos. It would kill me to see my daughter in that kind of pain.

He was truly a great actor and I think he still had yet to reach his full potential. My thoughts are with his family. They must be in a lot of pain right now.

why has this happen to someone who is good in acting...

it's probably because his heart was totally broken...

why does anyone care about this, self-indulgent actor who had the world at his feet, an oscar, beautiful child, and a devoted wife.  Everyone has their own vices but we manage to carry on and not self-destruct without the countless number of assistants and masseuses at the touch of our fingers.  The pressure of the media was probably too much, oh yah, and the pressure of paying the bills, looking after the kids and maintaining the household is just as stress-filled.
