The death of Heath Ledger shocked many people all over the world, obviously his family and certainly his close friends.  His dear friend and godfather to his daughter Matilda - Jake Gyllenhaal is taking the news especially hard.  Many are speculating on why Jake hasn't released a statement thus far.  However, others are saying that Jake is taking the news of Heath's death "harder than most" and just cannot face the public during this most difficult time. 

A source close to Jake and who works on the set of his new movie Brothers, told PEOPLE that he's taking the news extremely hard.

"This has had a strong personal affect on [Jake]."  Jake apparently returned to the movie set on Thursday (he had left when given the news of Ledger's passing) but was seen as "unfocused and distraught" the whole time.

"He was there, but he wasn't with us.  It was obviously a major trauma.  These guys were very close.  [Jake] was sitting in the director's chair staring off into space."

Jake has now taken time off from work to grieve the loss of his close friend.
