Liar Liar: Chef Robert Irvine Fired From Food Network

Robert Irvine has cooked his last soufflé as host of the popular Food Network show Dinner: Impossible.  Irvine was fired after it was discovered that he embellished (that's fancy talk for 'lied') several items on his resume, most notably that he had worked on Princess Diana's wedding cake.

Irvine had made the claim in his book Mission: Cook.  “It was an English fruitcake that weighed over 360 pounds...I worked on these elaborate side panels, which told the history of the royal Windsor and Spencer families - in icing!”

But that's not all.  Irvine also claimed he was a knight who owned a castle in Scotland, had cooked for presidents and royalty and was friends with Prince Charles - all stories that Irvine has admitted he made up to "impress wealthy Americans."

Looks like his next show might be, Mission: Find a Job.

I'm glad they fired him, honesty shouldn't be an option.  The guy got on my nerves anyway and lets just say that he got his "just desserts".

Chef Irvine was and still is an incredible chef. Though I agree he should not have padded his resume, his style speaks for its self. I'd like to see Rachel Ray or Emeril Lagasse pull a menu for 200 out of thier backsides with no food, little money, 2 assistants and shoddy kitchen conditions in 10 hours! makes you think why Tony Bourdain left the Food Network.

It seems like everybody either didn't like him in the first place and thinks he should have been fired, or did like him and thinks there's no harm in a little lying.  Let me be join the minority once again and say, yes, I did like him and, yes, he should have been fired.  Fraudulence should have negative consequences for the fraud.

I agree that the Network should have checked into his resume. Now that he has an awesome show, it would be more dissapointing for viewers to have the show cancelled, then for us to find out that maybe he fudged a little on his resume to get noticed.

I really enjoy his show.  It's a shame that he lied in order to make his mark in America but it's not an 'end of the world' lie.  It worked for him, for awhile, and now he'll make the truth work in his favour.  Someone that determined to make his mark won't be distroyed by this.  It's just a minor setback.

The Food Network is part of the entertainment industry.  I know first hand that sometimes it takes a little embellishing to get your foot in that door.  Fact is,  the guy did a great job on the show.  The only issue I have is that apparently,  he left people high and dry in St. Petersburg.  That's not cool.

Actually, his show seemed more than a bit contrived. I mean, how can you set up a culinary emergency made-to-order to meet a TV series production schedule? Of course it's fake! Just the sort of show for someone with a fake resume. No, the network's action was just PR damage-control when they learned the truth.

Those of you who think that this is the first time he has lied are wrong.  I met him in '94 and he was telling his lies then and was fired from a cruise line when a British peer outed him.  He also has shown through the years no compassion about who he hurts through his tall tales.  I feel he's almost psychotic in making up anything that would suit his purpose and get him what he wants.
