We all seem to have a fascination with celebrities and sometimes feel that we have a right to know everything about them.  However, when people start snooping in private hospital records, that really is going too far.

UCLA Medical Center has canned 13 workers, and six more were reportedly suspended and as many as six doctors were to be disciplined after looking at Britney Spears' computerized medical records without permission.  This is not the first time either - it happened in 2005 when Britney's first son Sean Preston was born.

The hospital said that only the popstar's non-psychiatric records were viewed - but I bet that still doesn't sit well with Spears.  When workers use the computer system, it's recorded because staffers create an audit trail with their PIN number.

The medical center spokespeople, however, said that there was "no evidence that any employee leaked information to the media or sold it."  Again, I doubt that gives the Spears family much comfort.

I'm wondering why the "lower level" workers were fired, yet the doctors were "disciplined?"

Perhaps UCLA Medical officials should think about a more reliable security feature - not just for celebrities, but for any patient - no one wants their medical records out there for anyone to look at!

The hospital has made one change since this incident - electronic devices, such as computers and cell phones have been banned to "enhance patient privacy and confidentially.
