Celebrity Moms Giving Advice: Kate Hudson,Kelly Preston & Kyra Sedgwick

Posted by Sassy Smith

Celebrity moms are just like us - except, you know, richer and more famous - and sometimes they have some great advice to give.  Here's what Kate Hudson, Kelly Preston & Kyra Sedgwick had to say:

Kate Hudson, 28 - Mom to Ryder Russell, 4 (dad to Ryder is her ex-husband Chris Robinson):

Make sure to take time for yourself every day.  Even if you have to lock yourself in the bathroom for two minutes, do it.  It's our nature as women to take care of everything and forget about ourselves.  It's important to be present and strong for your kids, and to do that, you need some breathing space.

Kelly Preston, 45, actress and is the wife of John Travolta and they have two children - Jett, now 15, and Ella, 7½:

There's nothing better than singing and dancing with your kids. It spreads the joy around the house.  I'm also a fan of family bike riding, swimming, art projects and trips to Denny's and Wal-Mart.

Kyra Sedgwick, 42, and stars in The Closer's, is mom of two - Travis, 18, and Sosie, 16, and married to actor Kevin Bacon:

Raising children, for me, was really about listening.  I put myself in their shoes for a minute and really tried to imagine myself at that age.  I always want my children to know that they're heard.

These are three celeb moms who really do sound like the rest of us (kinda) - I picture them as 'hands on' moms sans nannies!

Hahaha!  Here is what they really said.  Kate "I have a kid? Oh yeah.  I take at least 20 tokes a day to remember me time".  Kelly, "My husband is not gay.  He just has sex with men.  I want to thank the church of scientology for awarding me my children and my livelihood."  I leave Kyra alone.  I like her name and she seems almost human.

What's with the 'hands on moms sans nannies' comment?

"Hands on" meaning I think they're celebs who probably actually spend time to parent their kids (still richer than me of course).  "Sans nannies" means without nannies.

I know what it meant - it just seemed like it was a slam against (not just rich, famous) moms who do have nannies.  That moms who have nannies obviously aren't hands on.  I was just surprised to see that vibe on a babble blog.  But maybe that's not what you meant.

Oh no, I wasn't slamming anyone (celebs or otherwise) who have nannies - just because someone uses a nanny doesn't mean they aren't hands-on. I was only meaning that these celebrity moms seem real (more so than other celeb parents), albeit have way more money than most of us etc etc. That's not to say that I don't believe that there are celebs (and regular folk) who do dump their parenting responsibilities on the nannies.  I've seen it in my own personal experiences but as a general rule, I don't think people who hire help for their kids are bad!  Hell, there are days I'd go for a nanny..ha!
