I mean, did anyone really believe that what they hear on a Britney CD is all Britney? C'mon. So, it's not really big news that certain sound engineers are being said to have said that Britney's voice gets 'mixed' with the voice of a better singer - an older, black R&B singer - when her tracks are put together.
What IS kinda newsy is the source of this story: former punk icon Henry Rollins.
According to Dlisted.com, Henry said in an interview that he's heard stories from different sound engineers about what it takes to put together the Britney 'sound:'
"They have the black
chick come in and sing, and Britney sings over it, and they mix them
together," said Rollins, who has his own talk show on IFC. (Britney) gets her phrasing basically from this older R&B
woman. I found that out talking to an engineer. Britney apparently
isn't actually the worst singer, she just has no feel. So they bring in
this older black woman who sings the song, then Britney sings to it,
and they kind of make a mix of the two voices, and that's what you hear
on the records."
Well, if Henry says it's true... you don't mess with Henry. He could hurt you. But even if the story came from a mysterious 'unnamed source', I'd still believe it. Because, DUH. If an 'unnamed source' revealed to the world that gravity makes things falls down, I'd buy it, as I would if an 'unnamed source' said that 'Britney's a trainwreck,' or 'Britney's messing up her kids.' And this news pretty much falls into those categories, Henry-vouched or not.
