UsMagazine is confirming that Ashlee Simpson is expecting her first child with fiance Pete Wentz.  Simpson, 23, and Wentz, 28, just announced their engagement on Wednesday.  There goes the "First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes baby..." song I was going to sing at their wedding.

A rep for Fall Out Boy frontman Wentz tells Us, "We are thrilled to confirm their engagement and congratulate this happy couple.  Beyond that there is nothing to say."

Simpson's rep had no comment.

Everyone else? Plenty to say.

I have a feeling that 2008 will go down in Hollywood history as "Year Of The Baby."

It seems like everybody's suddenly up the spout ... and looking so damn chic!

What is it with these starlets and birth control (or lack there of)?  OK, so you don't want to be on the pill because you'll gain wait/not be able to maintain a size 0 - what about other methods.  Sheesh.

oh please, since when is it weird for 23 year olds to get pregnant? I was 23 (and unwed) when I was expecting my first and everything has turned out just fine so far.

My concern is not that she is 23 or unwed. Unlike many young unwed mother, Ashlee obviously has the money and time to devote to her child (or hire someone to do it for her). my concern is that SO MANY female celebrities are going and getting themselves knocked up. It reeks of an attention grabbing move. I wonder how many of these women actually want the lifetime commitment of a child, and how many just want to possess the latest "it" accessory.

I do think 23 is pretty young these days. Most of the 23-year-olds I've known are definitely not mature enough to be good parents yet. But! -- to those of you who do a good job with it, you've totally got my respect.
