I read this at The Daily Stab and I don't get it:
Oh my goodness! Rapper Snoop Dogg is set to release an illustrated children’s book series. Snoop, real name Calvin Broadus, is reportedly in the process of creating the “Where’s The Cheese” series of urban books.
Snoop is writing “Where’s The Cheese,” which will be illustrated by his cousin Joe Cool, to help city youngsters cope with the problems that can arise in their environment.
The series will focus on a character called Lil Mouse and her constant quest for cheese. It is also being claimed there’s an animated Where’s The Cheese TV show is in development, which may be narrated by Snoop’s daughter Cori ‘Choc’ Broadus.
It sounds cute and all, but I grew up in a large city and I don't get what the point is. What is the cheese? What would kids be looking for that relates to cheese? Is the cheese supposed to sympbolize peace? harmony? friendship? Are kids supposed to be friends with cheese? Aren't American kids overeating enough as it is? Wow, this cold medication is wonking me out because now I'm all "Let's be friends with cheese!"
I love his gun necklace - totally goes with the whole, "hey kids let's be friends with cheese" thing. Snoop Dogg sure knows how to mix gangsta with children appropriately. He confuses me too, but now I totally want cheese.
"cheese," i'm guessing, is a variation on the once widely used hip-hop slang, "cheddar," meaning money. so, the angle i assume snoop is going for: how kids growing up in tough environs can get their paper straight, slash, using the cheese/money conceit as a metaphor for rising above what's been handed to you.
It is code for "Where's the Weed"! This guy would whore himself and his family out for a nickle.
