Life & Style magazine is reporting that Lynn Spears, mom of the young and pregnant Jamie Lynn Spears, is disappointed that her daughter got knocked up so young. The magazine says that Lynne spoke exclusively to
one of its reporters while en route from L.A. to New Orleans, and that
she confided, "I'm a bit disappointed that my youngest daughter got
pregnant at such an early age."
Which, if it's true, demonstrates a lack of judgment (telling a reporter that you're ashamed of your kid? You want that kid to hate you?) that possibly matches that involved in having unprotected sex at any age. But, really, it's got to be highly unlikely that the story is true. I mean, the Spears family doesn't demonstrate strong skills in judgment, in general, but they do know their press, and so I doubt very much that Mama spears slipped up in this way.
Not that she might not have those thoughts in private. I certainly would strongly prefer that my own daughter not get pregnant in her teens. But I would keep my mouth shut about it, to her and to everyone else.
In any case, OK! magazine - almost as upstanding an authority as Life & Style - has come to Lynn's defense: they say the L&S interview never happened,
quoting a spokesperson: "When Lynne Spears is ready to give an
interview, I can assure you it will be a true account, without
speculation as to whether or not she participated."
Oooookay, then. Glad that's cleared up. Thanks, tabloids!
