Photographer Annie Leibovitz is speaking out about the controversial Miley Cyrus photographs she shot for Vanity Fair. The photo causing the biggest stir shows the Disney star topless and wrapped in a bedsheet.
“I'm sorry that my portrait of Miley has been misinterpreted," Leibovitz said in a statement. "Miley and I looked at fashion photographs together, and we discussed the picture in that context before we shot it.
"The photograph is a simple, classic portrait, shot with very little makeup, and I think it is very beautiful.”
C'mon, Annie - I'm no prude when it comes to nudity. I'm even a big fan of yours. But the bedsheet, the come-hither look - this picture is clearly exploitative. You've got three very young daughters of your own, and I would have hoped, that as a mother, you would have used more discretion when photographing a 15-year-old girl for a national magazine. One wonders how you would feel if this was your daughter, photographed by someone other than yourself.
