Fantasia On American Idol: Everyone Else Should Just Go Home

fantasia-on-american-idol-last-night

Fantasia Barrino, the winner of the third season of American Idol, performed on last night's show (check out the video below.)  Did anyone else think that she just kicked everyone else's asses?  Her performance was so high energy and infectious it made the three remaining contestants seem as if they've been asleep this entire season.

Barrino caused controversy during her AI run because as a single mother she had given birth, at the age of 17, to daughter Zion, now 6.  In 2005 her memoir Life Is Not a Fairy Tale, that revealed that she was functionally illiterate, rose to the top of the New York Times bestseller list.

The current season of American Idol is down to the two finalists, David Cook and David Archuleta.  I won't say who I'm pulling for, except it's not the one who looks like an elf and belongs on a Disney float singing show tunes.

THAT made the entire SSEASON for me....the last time i watched American Idol was back when Fantasia was on along with those other great ladies [i.e., Jennifer, LaToya]....The looks on the current contestants faces prove they have a LONG way to go to get to the "entertainer" part of the AI concept.

SHE IS THE M$*$&^@**^#)ing SHIznit!

Are you High.  Simon's face said it all.  That goes down as one of the worse performances in AI history.  Yea, people will remember her and wonder what in the world was she thinking.  Someone needs to show her how to dress, and dance.  She looked like a chicken jerking around on stage.  That was just sad, sad, sad.

Ed has it right... good heavens, I don't know what the rest of you people are thinking...  She was HORRIBLE.  I still can't believe she actually performed that song.  Granted, she had high energy... but that's not enough to make it a great performance.  It was absolutely awful.

Reminded me of the all-digital counterpoint singer that George Lucas created to sing with Sy in Jabba's palace.  I hated that performance too.

I thought it was horrendous, manic and the damage she is going to do to her voice is scary.  Nobody can scream like that for very long.

Why the hell is she looking like Dennis Rodman and performing like a Drag-queen.This was ridiculous.

She looked like something from the ghetto - or a Drag Queen.  What a poor example for an American Idol!  She would have done better on a strip runway.  Simon even looked like "what the hell".

Pa-leeze. You middle-American, white, John Mayer-loving people need to open your eyes and mind. What you witnessed was the next generation of Tina Turner, Patti LaBelle and the other great performers (that happen to be Black). I was so happy to see some individuality. It's lacking in today's music. And the ghetto comments are about as racists as you can get. Do you think Pink looks ghetto with her crazy-a@$ hair or Gwen Stephanie with hairy that so bleached that it looks like it would melt in your hand like cotton candy? It's okay not to like it but be careful how you describe it. Oops, your racism is showing.

I LOVED IT, certainly the most exciting & energetic performance this season. ART is ART, sure some people hated it, but it certainly made an impact, or else no one would be arguing or writing anything about it. And if she is happy and loves performing in her own unique 'controversial' style, more power to her. Anyone who can say they are doing what they love full speed & out loud, and make money, and someone [NOT EVERYONE] out there is enjoying it.. my hat is off, anyone else out there doing what they love? congrats!!! If everyone loves yer work, that's nice but - everyone loves water.. but  its pretty plain. You can't argue there isn't a  distinct flavor to Fantasia's performance style.. even if u hate it, you remember it! or at least you've spend time here and other places hating on it.. provocative.

Kim J I feel what you are saying. I live in Canada and I know America is trying to expose its flaws in white-black relations and for someone to call fantasia's performance ghetto is one of the reasons why black people and white people really just dont understand each other sometimes. I would prefer Fantasia's performance over a pre-made chicklit pop song sung by leona lewis ANY DAY! REAL TALK!

Please you PEOPLE because that's what you call us!!! I don't think you understand SOUL MUSIC. When you do your research know it and understand it,then you can talk about it. Right now SHUT the **ck UP. Kim thank you for your comment. You know its so funny how they judge our culture but try to talk like us,look like us, be like us, dress like us and all the white men want to taste us so please. Stop being so racist think about what you are saying treat people with respect because RESPECT is free don't cost you nothing......

ok I agree with Kim J and Kee, Fantasias performance was INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!! BUT- yes there is a BUT... I did NOT like her hair or wardrobe... I think that because she is a BLACK woman, she shouldnt have tried US like that. Leave that crazy yit for Pink and Amy Winehouse...we ALL know that Red should be left in the hood- she should have dyed her hair a color that compliments her skintone and features. And her wardrobe stylist should be fired... that aint the 1st time ol'girl set been hyit... other than that... Yall George Bushes can kick rocks!!!!!!!!!!

*rofl*

Man, definitely *don't* listen to James Brown. You wouldn't understand that, either. Fucking morons.

Fantasia, on a bad day, is a better than most singers. One a good day, I think she's one of the best in history, and that's not hyperbole. Check out her performance of I'm Here on Oprah. She's fucking fearless, and is capable of losing herself in a song the way a great actress loses herself in a role. That emotionally openness and vulnerability on stage is something wannabes like the "Davids", who are 100% craft and affectation, completely lack.

"Simon didn't know what to do with all of that!"

Ok I made that statement earlier, and I meant it in a good way! Well let me correct myself after seeing Simon on the Ellen show (yeahisaiditandwhat.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html)  he basically said he hated it, and could care less if she saw the interview and never spoke to him again.  But if you go to that website, just scroll down until you get to "May 20,2008- Simon speaks on Fantasia"  But regardless of what "Simon Says", I still think she did a terrific job!
