A pregnant Angelina told the press at Cannes that her latest performance was inspired by her late mother. Clint Eastwood and Angleina were being honored for "Changeling," a film based in 1920's Los Angeles, about a lost boy and a corrupt police department.
"I lost my mother a few months before the film and to me [this
character is] very much like my mother," said Jolie at a press
conference right after the film's world premiere. Her mother, actress
Marcheline Bertrand, died in January of 2007.
"My mother was
very passive in many ways and very, very sweet but when it came to her
children she was a lion. Christine reminded me of my mom and it was a
way to revisit my mother and spend time with her. So it was very nice
and - in that way - very healing and interesting for me."
"When I first read it, I couldn't put it down and then I couldn't stop
thinking about it," said Jolie. "But I
didn't necessarily want to do it. I didn't want to experience what that
felt like for months. When Clint was doing it, I knew that he would
help me through it and that it wouldn't be too painful."
