That's More Amore: Tilda Swinton, Sandro Kopp, and Two Others

Just how exactly do these people keep track of all their toothbrushes?

Tilda Swinton has always been open about her unconventional love life - the Michael Clayton actress lives in Scotland with lover John Byrne, 67, and their twin 10 year old boys, but she also has a relationship with Sandro Kopp, 29, a painter from Wellington.

Now it turns out the love triangle is actually a love square, with the revelation that Byrne also has a lover on the side: lighting director Jeanine Davis, 42.

Byrne, an director, playwright and artist, describes their situation as "relaxed and amicable."

"We have not hidden away and Jeanine is very much part of my life. Tilda knows all about it and is more than happy with the situation," he says in a recent interview.  "Tilda has Sandro and the arrangement works very well."

Byrne also revealed that Davis has met his family and Kopp, Tilda's other lover.  "I wouldn’t say we all socialised together but she has met Sandro and we have all been under one roof together ... I know some people will struggle to understand it, but it works for us.”

Awesome!  I have never understood why people are not more civil about such things.  So they want to bump uglies with others but keep their relationship, big deal.  It is not as if they are out prowling around with a different person each week.  It's the lies that ruin a relationship not the sleeping with another person.  I bet their sons think it is no big deal.  Their parents love each other and raise them together.  I doubt the deatails of their parents sex lives would do nothing but barf them out anyway.

We polyamorists call such an arrangement a quad, and a relationship with three adults a triad.  Kids do great in such families, so long as the families are stable, especially becaue there are more adults present to care and provide for them.

The June issues of Redbook, Marie Claire and Glamour all have articles about writer Jenny Block's new book, Open: Love, Sex and Life in an Open Marriage.  Once more a fringe practice, today open relationships and marriages (also called polyamory) are becoming very mainstream.  They aren't for everyone, and monogamy is still a legitimate choice - just not the only one.

I love Tilda Swinton. Even more now. If it works and they're all happy, then more power to them.

As someone in a polyamorous marriage (my husband has a sweetie he's been dating for years, I occasionally date other guys or gals, and we have fooled around together with other singles and couples), I'm always pleased when I hear about celebrities who are honest about being in this kind of relationship. There are a lot more of us than that people think, and it's no more "weird", to my mind, than agreeing that you'll never so much as kiss someone for the rest of the your life. We've seen plenty of people who make it work with kids. Each case is different, but there are many reasonable ways to handle it.

More power to Tilda!

Yay for people!- Freakin' YAY!

There's no more or less security in polyamory vs monogamy for the adults involved or the kids.

I've known many to attempt that road and it's been periless and complicated as is trying to keep one relationship going.

People are weird and wired to stray.
