UPDATE: Tiger Woods Wins His Third U.S. Open Title

Whether or not Tiger Woods is on his way to his third U.S. Open title on Sunday one thing is for sure: he'll be savoring his first Father's Day as a dad to daughter Sam Alexis.  Sam was born last year on June 18, the day after Father's Day.

Woods credits his daughter with helping him to recover from arthroscopic surgery on his knee that had him out of the game for two months.

“There’s no way I could have gotten through this without Sam being there,” Woods said. “Spending that much time off and away from training and trying to get better, Sam was absolutely incredible, and I had so much fun doing that. It took my mind away from the fact that I had a surgery done, and just watching her grow, walking, running now, it’s been just the greatest thing in the world.”

Father's Day will also be bittersweet for Woods, whose own father Earl passed away in 2006. But the elder Woods lives on in Sam, by virtue of her name. “My father had always called me Sam since the day I was born,” Tiger said in an interview last year. “He rarely ever called me Tiger. I would ask him, ‘Why don’t you ever call me Tiger?’ He says, ‘Well, you look more like a Sam.’ ”

What a beautiful sentiment by a stand up guy.  Looks like he'll have the close, loving relationship with his daughter that his father had with him. Best wishes to a lovely family.
