"Jamie Lynn Will Be A Great Mom" Says Family. Um, OK.

Posted by HerBadMother

Apparently - and not surprisingly - family and friends of Jamie Lynn Spears are expressing their joy at the arrival of her baby and asserting their confidence in her parenting abilities. "She'll be a great mom," said a family friend. "She'll be awesome."

Of course. But - and forgive me in advance for asking the snarky but all-too-obvious question - has everyone forgotten how old she is? She's a teenager, for chrissakes. I'm sure that she'll be awesome in the loves-her-kids-adores-them-lavishes-them-with-kisses kind of way, but in the practical, everyday, raising-them-and-nurturing-them-and-keeping-them-in-their-diapers--without-losing-her-mind kinda way? I'm not sure that's obvious.

(The other, unspoken, variable here? She's a Spears. The family maintenance track record there isn't so good. Just sayin'.)

I KNOW: I should not condemn her parenting skills before she's barely started. And I'm not - for all I know, she could be the mother to trump all mothers. But speaking as a thirty-something mother of two who - despite multiple university degrees and a stable home and happy marriage and bags of life experience - has struggled mightily with the experience of being a 'good' mother, I feel obliged to point out that THIS SHIT IS HARD. And if it's hard for those of us who have buckets of resources and few spotlight-related pressures, how hard is it going to be for a teenager with a pimply teenaged baby daddy and hordes of paparazzi riding her ass?

One family member spoke somewhat sensibly: "She's awfully young to be a momma," said distant cousin Margie Busby. "But that's what they make [grandmothers] for. They have to help. That's the way it is with our circle of friends."

Is that going to be enough?

I'm just askin.'

Wow, you're 30-something huh? That's a little old, no? Don't you get tired keeping up with your children? I can't imagine being that old and having to chase my kids around, not to mention how VERY OLD I would be when they graduate! That must be really difficult for you!

Being a mom is hard at any age, regardless of resources or "life experience". The young mom stereotyping is getting a little old itself...

I could not have said it better myself Jazmin.

I feel worst for older mothers who look like grandparents instead of the parents of the child. Jeez.

I was recently at Macys and there was a mom who was told aww your grandson is adorable... she let them know she was the kid's mom. Now that is sad, it would make me want to stay at home with my kid and not go out in public.

I have seen so many yound moms do a good job at raising their kids. Jaime is not financially in any type of crisis. Did you see Zoey 101 is STILL running? Obviously they are still running old episodes because people loved the show. I think her love will be more than enough since other people can take care of the things she does not want to do.

I would LOVE to be a loving mom to my daughter 24/7 and not have to worry about changing her diaper or cleaning spills. Seriously who wouldn't.

I just think she will be a TYPICAL hollywood mom. Now go critic the rest for doing what she will do.
