What is the attraction to celebrity babies and toddlers?  It most likely stems from the attraction to their parents - the never ending need to know what's happening in a celebrity's life, what they're wearing, eating, driving, who they're hanging out with, dating, marrying and naturally, when a famous person has a child, then that child becomes part of the desire to know all.  Plus, they're adorable too!

Celebrity kids are a hot commodity and there's no end in sight, especially with what seems like some sort of Tinseltown baby boom.  We're constantly on "bump watch," speculating on who's pregnant, or waiting for the next actor or singer to pop their baby out.  Have to feed the demand right?

Dina Sansing, entertainment director of Us Weekly says, "Celebrities are much bigger than they were three years ago, so (interest in) every aspect of their lives has increased, and along with that is babies."

Then of course, there's the baby photo bidding wars that get the internet buzzing - have to see those first 'exclusive' photos of the celebrity newborn!

Sansing adds, "You've seen a lot of big babies in the last couple of years.

Joanne Koch, co-auther of Good Parenting for Hard Times and a professor of English at National-Louis University says, "Looking through the morning paper, you want to push past bad news, about the economy, and the gas prices, and the war, and all these things and - ah! - you can read about the celebrities.

"And what is more hopeful and promising than a baby? I think it's part of that hard-times mentality of escaping that drove people in the really hard times to the movies in the first place."

For some celebrities, having a baby makes them more famous.  Dina Sansing says, "Having a baby can elevate someone's level of stardom.  For someone like Nicole Richie, she had gone through all these weight struggles - everyone thought she was too thin - and then she's having a baby.  And therefore her life becomes more interesting."

Pamela Brand, a marriage and family therapist, says that moms particularly want to know more about the celebs and their babies.

"It takes these young, beautiful, almost perfect-appearing women, and brings them to a different level. They open up their lives. And they're not all that open, and you can't really understand all that much about them when you see them in pictures. They're hard to read. You just see them as these beautiful beings.

"When they have children and are willing to show their children and their families, you can read a little bit more into what's going on."

Brand adds, that celebrity marriages, can also be affected by the birth of a child and we can see a glimpse of the true personality of the star.

"You can start to tell a little bit about the character of the celebrity by watching them, and I think that is fascinating to people. They want to try to understand who's who and how do they function and how do they compare with me, and how is their relationship affected?

"Marriages can be very challenged by the birth of a child, or a second child, so I think that people take fascination in knowing, oh, it's not just me. They're having trouble, too."
