We recently saw the first photos of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's twins and of course there'd have to be some sort of controversy. What fun would it be to just have folks gush over the babies' pics? No, some people have to spice things up and make waves. Little Vivienne, just three weeks old, was pictured smiling on People magazine's cover shot and New York magazine suggested that the smiling newborn was photoshopped - and it must be true right? All of us parents know, that three week old infants don't smile (insert sarcasm here).....
People mag told FOXNews.com that they stand by their picture and say it was not photoshopped. Rep Sandi Shurgin says, "Contrary to blog speculation, PEOPLE did not photoshop Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt's smile. One can only guess that she is smiling because her parents are Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt."
However, New York Magazine quotes an article from Parenting magazine that states that babies "don't smile from exterior stimulation until 2 to 4 months of age."
The magazine goes on to say that the picture was photoshopped or that, "the babies could have been born earlier than reported to avoid paparazzi attention, as has been rumored. Or Angelina and Brad, predicting their future acting careers are already lying about the infants' ages." Please.
The same Parenting article also states that babies seen via ultrasound, are often smiling in the last trimester (ya because they're excited about getting out of there!) and it's believed to be a natural response to the internal pleasure of falling asleep or waking up.
Yup, or gas. My babies all smiled at just days old - sure it wasn't because they were thrilled with something (well I suppose it could have been their awe at my beauty) - more likely it was a fart that escaped. I don't believe the photo was altered - little Viv had some gas and the photographer got lucky.
