Olympic Parenting: Oksana Chusovitina and Alisher

Posted by Whit Honea

This is Oksana Chusovitina's son Alisher.  He and his mom have been one of the highlights of the Olympics.

His mother is a 33-year-old gymnast which makes her about twenty years older than the girls competing for China.  She has competed in five Olympics for 3 different nations.

The story about Alisher is what really sets her apart.  Alisher was diagnosed with leukemia and as her country of Uzbekistan was not sufficiently prepared to help him she went, with the help of her friend the German gymnastics coach, to Germany for treatment.  The rest is, as they say, history, and Alisher's story is a happy one.

I love the Olympics.
