Is Dolly Parton dead? Rumors are swirling today that the country music legend has died of congestive heart failure. While several sources attribute Fox News as the source, there are no stories on Fox's website pertaining to the rumor.
Pete Owens, Dolly Parton's public relations agent, denied the reports early this morning saying that Parton was "alive and well," and that he believes the rumors started when a local football team erroneously reported Parton's death during a football game. However, he stated that Parton has declined to make a formal statement.
Although Parton performed at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles on August 8 and appeared in perfect health, one news outlet points out the fact that rumors of Parton's death are eerily similar to those that preceded the death of actor Bernie Mac earlier this month. Mac died on August 9 after days of speculation about the severity of his illness.
Rumors, whether they prove to be true or not, must be difficult for family members to hear. Parton and husband Carl Dean have no children of their own, but the couple have raised several of Dolly's younger siblings in their Nashville home. Parton is also the godmother of singer Miley Cyrus.
Let's hope the rumors about Parton's death prove to be false. We'll keep you updated.
