Thank goodness! I was worried we wouldn't know why Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale named their newest edition - Zuma Nesta Rock. But have no fear people, a 'baby name expert' has given the lowdown on the Zuma.....
According to Pamela Redmond Satran, co-author of The Baby Name Bible (it's a Bible people, so YES we will have answers!), Gwen and Gavin "have proven decisively that they're masters in choosing names that are both highly unusual and carry a lot of personal meaning." Ha, she's not kidding.
Satran tells Usmagazine.com, "They've continued their own place-naming tradition by naming their son after Zuma Beach in Malibu." Gavin apparently had an epiphany years ago before his career really got started - Satran had read this on his profile.
She continues, "He [Gavin] was standing on Zuma Beach in the early morning after working all night as a production assistant on a music video and was quoted as saying he realized he was wasting his time. He drove up the coast, slept in his car, and started making the moves that would launch his career."
Neil Young and Crazy Horse also have an album from '75 titled, Zuma. Do you have goosebumps yet? Uh huh.
Okay, so we have Zuma explained, but what about 'Nesta?' Nesta was Bob Marley's first name before an immigration official switched it with his middle name, Robert. Who knew?! And Bob Marley's zon Ziggy, used Nesta as a middle name for his boy, as well as his other son, Rohan, who named his son John Nesta Marley. Lots of Nestas.
Pamela adds, "This name obviously links to big brother Kingston's and is another nod to Jamaica and reggae."
And Rock "needs no explanation," because - it's obvious right??? - Gwen and Gaven are kinda, sorta rock stars! Well duh! Satran says that we are (we are?) "long overdue for a Rock Hudson-inspired revival." Of course.
Whew. I am gonna sleep well tonight knowing what I know now. No need to thank me (but feel free) for giving you the deets on Zuma. I hope and pray he's a beautiful boy (I'm sure he is) because he may need people to be mesmerized by his looks so they barely notice his name.
