Javier Vazquez-Going For A Strike Out

Posted by trix

I like baseball, and I like going to baseball games.  The players though, not so much. The only dealings I've ever had with baseball players, besides watching them be bad tippers , is a major league farm team in a college town. We called them BMW's (baseball man whores) and I was never really impressed.

It's so nice to see someone doing something to make a difference, for not only their family, but to help others in the same boat as themselves. They're not doing it just because their sport has a contract to help a certain group.

There are some that go beyond what they have to do, and do what they want to do.

Javier Vazquez  of the Chicago White Sox is one of those. He and his people have put together a foundation to help raise money for diabetes research.
His daughter Kamila, 5, was diagnosed with the disease at 2 years old and since then, Javier and his wife Kamille monitor her food intake. They watch not only what she eats, but how much. Along with monitoring her nutrition they also have to watch and monitor her blood levels.
They recently put together a fund raiser that along with The Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago raised $110,000 for the cause.
Not bad for the first K's for Kids Gala.
Let's hope they can do this next year too and they can strike out Type 1 diabetes for good.
