You may not know his name, but you definitely know his voice: Don LaFontaine, who you've heard in hundreds of movie trailers from The Terminator to The Simpsons Movie, has died at the age of 68.
During a career that spanned over 25 years, LaFontaine earned the name "King of Voiceovers." In addition to his movie trailer work he also worked as the voice of Entertainment Tonight and The Insider, as well as for CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox and UPN, in addition to TNT, TBS and the Cartoon Network. It's estimated that he voiced hundreds of thousands of television and radio spots, including commercials for Chevrolet, Pontiac, Ford, Budweiser, McDonalds, Coke, and many other corporate sponsors.
ETonline.com is reporting that LaFontaine passed away following complications from Pneumothorax, the presence of air or gas in the pleural cavity resulting from a collapsed lung. The official cause of death has not yet been released.
La Fontaine is survived by his wife, singer/actress Nita Whitaker and his three children: Lisi, 12, Skye, 17 and Christine, 37.
You may have seen LaFontaine most recently in this Geico commercial, where he spoofs himself:
