Kelly Ripa, 37-year-old cohost of "Live With Regis & Kelly," talks about parenthood and happiness in the September issue of First magazine. Kelly and husband Mark Consuelos have been married for 12 years now, and are the parents of Michael, 11, Lola, 7, and Joaquin, 5.
As busy as she is, she still finds alone time, which is really necessary for the sanity of any parent. "I try to run every day in the park," Ripa says. "I find that I'm a better wife and mom if I take a half hour for myself every day. It can feel selfish, but it makes a big difference. If you don't, you'll feel overwhelmed and resentful."
What does she do with her kids? With Lola, she builds fairy houses by gathering materials such as sticks, seashells, toothpicks...whatever she can find. Then they leave their little houses in the woods for the fairies. I guess the Queer Eye dudes love that shit.
The boys are more into video games and are constantly bargaining for more game time. "I'll take out the trash if you let me have 10 minutes of video game time," the boys will say.
The Daytime Emmy winner is also involved with the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF). "I lost a friend to ovarian cancer, so that’s very close to me. When I do Super Saturday (an annual event Kelly cohosts to help raise money for the OCRF) and see an ovarian cancer survivor and she says, ‘Thank you for doing this. Maybe my daughter won’t have to know what ovarian cancer is’...that’s why I do it. If my job can improve someone’s quality of life, that gives me great satisfaction."
