Sarah Palin is a lot of things - wife, mother, Governor of Alaska, hunter, ex-beauty queen, poser of naked pictures (?), John McCain's running mate, a woman who fakes pregnancies (allegedly - and just one that we know of), outspoken, someone who reportedly had an affair with her husband's business partner - the list goes on. A list off Palin's 'most shocking beliefs,' has been compiled and I'd dare say, some are shocking.....
From Alternet.org:
1. Sarah Palin does not believe in giving teenagers information about sex.
Good plan. Do not give teens any information about sex. That will surely prevent unwanted teen pregnancies. Great thinking Sarah! Worked for her family obviously. Oops, wait....
2.Palin believes the U.S. Army is on a mission from God.
Interesting. Which God is she referring to? Palin gave a speech in June at the Wasilla Assembly of God and said, "Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God. That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God's plan." Gotcha. The war is God's fault.
3. Sarah Palin believes in punishing rape victims.
Another great plan, punish the victims. She's opposed to abortion in cases of incest as well, and believes the only exception to an abortion is if it (the birth) would result in the death of the mother. Hmm. What if a pre-teen girl was raped? Say she was 9, 10 or 11, and raped - that CHILD should have the baby? She's absurd. Ridiculous.
4. Sarah Palin is against clean water.
Oh me too, who wants clean water? The Hill reported, "Governor Palin has.... opposed a crucial clean water intiative." From Alaska's KTUU, "It is against the law for the governor to officially advocate for or against a ballot measure; however, Palin took what she calls 'personal privilege' to discuss one of this year's most contentious inititatives."
Palin said, "Let me take my governor's hat off just for a minute here and tell you, personally, Prop 4 - I vote no on that." What is Prop 4? 'A state initiative that would have banned metal mines from discharging pollution into salmon streams.' Oil and gas companies are also approved to dump toxic waste (triple the amounts!) into Cook inlet - an important fishery. Palin approved the legislation. Nice.
5. Sarah Palin calls herself a reformer, but on earmarks and the "Bridge to Nowhere," she is a hypocrite.
From the Associated Press, "Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million." This was when Palin was mayor of the town of Wasilla, population of about 8,000. That's a lot of chedda that the taxpayers paid out. And that's not all - Sarah Palin, according to Politico, "racked up nearly $20 million in long-term debt as mayer of the tiny town of Wasilla - that amounts to $3,000 per resident." I'm sure they were happy about that.
6. Sarah Palin believes creationism should be taught in schools.
Palin said, during her run for governor, "Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information. Healthy debate is so important, and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both.
"It's OK to let kids know that there are theories out there. They gain information just by being in a discussion." I can't say that I disagree with that - nothing wrong with choices and discussion. I'm open to listening to other's views.
7. Sarah Palin supports offshore drilling everywhere, even if it doesn't solve our energy problems.
From the Miami Herald: "The Alaska governor has said that she has tried to persuade McCain to agree with her on drilling in the wildlife refuge. She also has said that she was happy that he changed his position over the summer and now supports offshore oil drilling."
In her speech last week, "Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of America's energy problems - as if we all didn't know that already."
So drill away people! It won't help but who cares? Oh let's blame God - just like the war.
8. Sarah Palin loves oil and nuclear power.
Duh, of course she does! From Palin's acceptance speech: "Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we're going to lay more pipelines, build more nuclear plants, create jobs with clean coal and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal and other alternative sources."
Ya, sounds like a plan.
9. Sarah Palin doesn't think much of community activism; she'd much rather play insider political games.
Oh come on, she was busy faking a pregnancy having kids, being a mom, being a mayor, governor and now running mate. But she must have done something community based? Sure! "She worked to enlarge Wasilla's Wal-Mart and build a sports center (that went over budget in an eminent domain dispute), and she hired a Washington lobbyist, directed a political fundraising committee for the state's senior U.S. senator, Republican Ted Stevens, now under indictment for corruption, and steered $22 million in federal aid to her town." See? Told you.
